What Is a Pool Pressure Test?

A pressure test is used to determine whether your pool’s underground plumbing lines are leaking.

We isolate each pipe individually and use professional leak detection equipment to pressurize the plumbing system. If the line cannot hold pressure, it indicates a leak somewhere underground or at a fitting.

This allows us to identify whether the problem is coming from:

  • Underground pipes
  • Return lines
  • Skimmer lines
  • Main drain lines
  • Underground fittings
  • Plumbing connections

Signs You May Have an Underground Pool Leak

Your pool may need a pressure test if:

  • You constantly lose water
  • The pool loses water even when equipment is off
  • Air bubbles come through the returns
  • You need to add water frequently
  • The pool leaks only while the pump is running
  • Wet spots appear around the pool
  • Your liner is floating from groundwater
  • Your pool will not hold pressure
  • You suspect an underground pipe leak

Pressure Test vs Leak Detection

Pressure Test

A pressure test checks whether your underground plumbing lines are leaking.

This is recommended if:

  • You suspect a pipe leak
  • Water loss changes when equipment is on/off
  • Air enters the system
  • Underground plumbing is suspected

Leak Detection

A standard leak detection focuses on the pool structure itself.

This is recommended if:

  • You suspect the liner is leaking
  • You see tears or holes
  • Water loss appears unrelated to the plumbing
  • The pool loses water to a certain level

FAQ

Yes — pressure testing is specifically used to determine whether underground plumbing lines are leaking.

Sometimes, but not always. A pressure test confirms whether the line leaks. Additional leak locating methods or excavation may be required.

We will explain which line failed and recommend the next steps.

Yes. Repairs and excavation are quoted separately depending on the location and severity of the leak.

Yes. Some pools may have multiple leaks.

Most tests take approximately 1–4 hours depending on the complexity of the pool plumbing system.
